Family Profile
Herman Harold Stombaugh and his wife, Josephine Elsie Haley Stombaugh, migrated to Joplin, MO from Hamburg, Germany in 1925.
Herman found employment in those hard times, and supported his family by working as a prize fighter. Eventually, both he and Josephine found work with Craft Amusements, which began the long association with the carnival industry. The couple worked with Perrell’s Broadway Shows and during that time, their daughter, Dean, met Gerald Exum, whom she married. The family then moved on to Cetlin and Wilson Shows. Herman moved four ferris wheels for that show, which was quite a feat.
